A Luxembourg Picnic

For the Parisians, this is a not-so-traditional picnic in an oh-so-traditional park….French teenagers in front of Marie de Medici’s former palace (now the meeting place of the French Senate) at the Luxembourg Gardens! Notice the bags from McDo's (the French nickname for McDonald's). Everyone was sunning themselves on another sunny, but chilly, Sunday.

PS – By the way, the Luxembourg Gardens are considered the first public gardens in Paris. Louis XIV decided, after he engaged famous gardener Andre Le Notre to design them, that Parisians would be granted the right to walk through them every year on June 24th. Le Notre was also responsible for the construction of the park at Versailles and for the planning of the Tuileries Garden extension, which would later become the boulevard of the Champs-Elysees. His designs include, among others, Chateaux Chantilly and Fontainebleau.
