Speaking of Weather...

...which I referred to in the 4/1/07 post with the photo taken from the Notre-Dame towers. I believe I had wonderful weather while in Paris (glass half full, of course). The day I took the photos from the Notre-Dame towers was more sunny than cloudy as it appears in that photo. Even though there are some dark clouds to the North, they kept moving and didn’t ruin that particular day. They made for more interesting images, I think.

Paris has the reputation of being cloudy and gray, especially during the time that I was there. And I must admit that January, with its days of only 8 ½ hours of daylight, did seem a little dark. (I was supposed to be studying so it really didn’t matter.) However, I also had many sunny days and many in the 50s and 60s. I remember at least one sunny weekend day for several weekends in a row during February; and I remember only two or three really rainy and wet days. Otherwise, the sprinkles didn’t stop me.

On average, the sun shines about 1,800 hours per year in Paris and it rains at some time during 171 days each year. Believe it or not, spring is the driest season. Wind is rare (44 days per year), as is snow—only 15 days on average. I really wanted to take some pictures of Paris in the snow but it only spit some flurries for about an hour early one morning (it was still dark and I heard it before I could see it). I wouldn’t hesitate to return to Paris in January, February, or March. Oh, let’s face it, there are few times I would hesitate about returning to Paris…
