Are You Ready for Easter?

Remember when you got a new dress, a bonnet, and fancy shoes for Easter? Maybe you still do…

In France, they not only celebrate Easter Sunday but also the next day, Easter Monday. There is no Easter bunny; they have Easter bells. Beginning on Thursday before Easter, French church bells remain silent until Easter morning. Their tradition is that the church bells fly to the Vatican in Rome and return in time for the Easter celebration. When the children hear the church bells on Easter Sunday, that’s their signal that the bells have deposited eggs and chocolates all over their gardens and they run out looking for the goodies.

Although I didn’t notice any Easter “art” in the windows of the patisseries and chocolatiers before I left Paris (too early), I did see these hats which reminded me of Easter bonnets. As a matter of fact, go to a Baptist church in Houston on any Sunday and you’ll be craning your neck to see beyond these hats to the altar… Bon Paques!
